Brno - Brno plans to develop a completely new zoning plan within six years. This was stated today by the mayor's deputy Martin Ander (SZ), who is responsible for urban planning. According to him, the city will cease the ongoing work on the concept of the zoning plan, which began in 2002. Ander stated that it is not possible to continue with the concept due to the lack of solutions for important roads and highways around Brno in the approved regional principles of spatial development. Regional councilors approved the principles in October, and they will be refined in the coming years.
The schedule for the preparation of the new city zoning plan was approved today by the Brno councilors, and it still needs to be supported by the council. It will meet on November 15. "In October, the regional principles of spatial development were approved, which ultimately did not bring a definitive decision on the routing of important communications around Brno. From this, it follows for Brno that it cannot continue with the process initiated in 2002," said Ander. According to him, the city suspended work in 2013 after the Supreme Administrative Court annulled the previous regional principles of spatial development in 2012. The region has now approved a new document.
Brno will also begin to develop a completely new plan. "The first milestone is the preparation of a spatial vision for the development of the city, which will be prepared by the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno. The vision will be completed next year. We will then incorporate various studies that we have conducted into the plan. No city the size of Brno has developed a new plan sooner than five to six years, therefore we expect to have it completed by the end of 2022," added Ander. Until then, the city will follow a more than 20-year-old zoning plan, which it will gradually incorporate individual changes responding to the city's needs. The previous council of Brno approved a major update of the zoning plan in 2014 with many changes, but last January it was annulled by the Regional Court in Brno due to the incomprehensibility of some decisions. The South Moravian Region intends to carry out the first update of the principles with the completion of Brno within three years.
