Brno - The Brno council today postponed the approval of the schedule for the work on the new zoning plan by a month. Coalition representatives will strive to find agreement on the procedure with all political clubs in the council to make the drafting of the plan as stable as possible. The mayor's deputy Martin Ander (SZ), who is responsible for urban planning, told ČTK. According to him, the work will last five to six years. Until then, Brno will follow the old zoning plan, for which necessary changes are gradually being made.
The council was supposed to approve the schedule for the work on the new zoning plan today. "On Monday, during the meeting of the leaders of the council clubs, it was mentioned that we should try to find consensus across all clubs. The mayor (Petr Vokřál) and I agreed to give it a chance. That is why we postponed the decision to December," said Ander.
According to him, negotiations with the leaders of the council clubs will begin next week. "We will work on the text of a declaration, in which all parties of the council will attempt to agree on the process that we will follow in preparing the plan in this and the next electoral term. The zoning plan is not a one-electoral-term task, and if there is broad consensus, the process should have greater stability," said Ander. He added, however, that if it was only an attempt to delay, the current coalition would not allow it.
In addition, the councilors approved changes to the current zoning plan. Some result from the Principles of Spatial Development of the South Moravian Region, which the regional council approved in October before the elections.
The new zoning plan could be completed in 2022. Until then, Brno will adhere to a zoning plan that is over 20 years old. The previous council approved a major update of the plan with many changes back in 2014, but the court annulled it last January due to the indefensibility of some decisions.
