Brno – Representatives of the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno (KAM) and the city will meet with the public at the Scala cinema for two discussion meetings regarding the new zoning plan. The aim is to present the amended proposal of the zoning plan to the public before repeated public hearings, which will take place at the Brno Exhibition Centre at the end of June. This was stated today in a press release by KAM Director Michal Sedláček. Members of the Nesehnutí movement also want to present their comments at both Scala and the exhibition centre, said the organization’s media representative Marek Hadrbolec today to ČTK.
Discussions at the cinema are planned for Thursday, June 10, and Tuesday, June 15, and registration is required for entry on the KAM website. Each meeting is reserved for about two hours, with the program starting with a presentation of the amended proposal, followed by most of the time dedicated to questions from attendees. "On behalf of our office, there will be architects and urban planners, as well as specialists in transportation, urban infrastructure, and landscape on site. People can come and ask anything they are interested in regarding the new zoning plan,” said Sedláček.
Public hearings on the proposed zoning plan will take place on June 21 and 22 at the Brno Exhibition Centre. Comments, objections, and positions can be submitted until June 29, inclusive. Zoning planners had to deal with 36,000 objections and comments after the first public consultation last June. According to the Nesehnutí organization, however, their comments regarding green space protection, rainwater usage, and public space protection were not adequately incorporated.
"The proposal does include new formulations for the protection of courtyards or greenery in public spaces and supports underground or building parking instead of street parking. However, these measures are defined ambiguously and may have little or no impact in practice. The current proposal is not functional in this respect, and vague formulations could negatively affect the future of specific locations,” stated the coordinator of the Sustainable Brno campaign, Barbora Kosinová.
Nesehnutí launched a campaign aimed at proposing measures to improve the environment in the new zoning plan last May. It also launched a website where the public could submit comments to the city. The campaign has now been revitalized, requesting support from the public again.
