Brno - This year, Brno will develop a vision for the spatial development of the city as one of the basic documents for the new zoning plan. The mayor's deputy Martin Ander (SZ) told journalists today. According to him, the vision is supposed to be a short and understandable document for citizens that will contain slogans such as a city of short distances or a city with a high quality of life. Brno is currently governed by a zoning plan that is more than twenty years old. The new one could be completed around the year 2022, Ander added.
The vision is to be prepared by the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno by the end of June. "Its purpose is to clearly and realistically formulate the basic principles on which the development of the city should be based in the coming years," said Ander.
However, according to him, its purpose is not to come up with solutions. "That will then be the task of experts working on the zoning plan. The vision should state, for example, that Brno is a city of short distances, where a person can easily get to work, school, and entertainment thanks to the transport system. Another example is a city with a high quality of life, where various housing options are included, as well as housing in the city center. This way, people do not need to move out of the city and then come here, adding to traffic congestion," stated Ander.
The prepared vision must be discussed by the office staff with the public, explaining all necessary matters, as well as with the city districts. Brno has 29 city districts. "The Office of the Architect of the City of Brno is already working on preparing the draft vision for the spatial development of the city. According to the schedule, the vision will be completed in the second quarter of this year," added the director of the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno, Michal Sedláček.
Work on the new zoning plan will then take about five years. Until then, Brno will adhere to a zoning plan that is more than 20 years old. The previous council approved a major update of the plan with many changes in 2014, but then the court annulled it due to the incomprehensibility of some decisions. Ander stated that the necessary changes are being implemented gradually.
