Brno - The draft of the new zoning plan for Brno intended for public discussion is available starting today on the city's urban planning portal. The public discussion is scheduled for the end of July. This was stated today by the councilor for urban planning Petr Bořecký (ANO) during a briefing after the council meeting.

"The proposed zoning plan is clearly legible. In the redevelopment areas, it offers the maximum possible sustainable development of the city, while the stabilized areas are protected to prevent redevelopment that disrupts the preserved character of the existing development," Bořecký stated. According to him, the new zoning plan will allow Brno to better respond to global climate changes, whether by supporting rainwater management, planting tree rows, or enhancing the protection of greenery in parks.

The city has so far been guided by a zoning plan from 1994, when the draft of the new zoning plan was not approved by the Brno city council two years ago. The new draft was presented by the city this February, and it could primarily be commented on by concerned authorities such as ministries, the regional office, or neighboring municipalities, as well as the public and city districts.

"We incorporated mainly the guidelines that were approved by the Brno city representatives on June 21, 2022. This includes, among other things, setting stricter conditions for stabilized areas or defining a new type of functional area for individual housing. The visual aspect, terminology, coding, and names of the types of areas are new. The new zoning plan also responds to current changes in the city's territory and legal requirements," stated Jan Tesárek, the director of the Office of the City Architect.

The public discussion of the zoning plan will take place at the end of July. The anticipated date for the issuance of the plan is at the turn of this year and next, with it coming into effect in the first quarter of 2025.
