Brno – The Brno council did not discuss today whether to recommend the approval or rejection of the draft zoning plan to the June council meeting. They will return to it in a week. The city's leadership informed about this at a briefing after the council meeting. Coalition member ODS, among others, has reservations about the proposal, with Mayor Markéta Vaňková stating that she currently sees flaws in the draft. Brno has a zoning plan from 1994, and its form no longer meets the needs even after updates.
The current zoning plan will expire in 2028. Originally, it was supposed to expire this year, which is why after the 2018 elections, the new coalition of ODS, KDU-ČSL, Pirates, and CSSD designated the new zoning plan as a priority and started working on its form. However, the timeline has been pushed back during the electoral period.
According to Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík, the Brno council today included the relevant item on the council agenda and also resolved that the draft zoning plan should be published. "We will return to the actual recommendation for the approval or rejection of the draft zoning plan at the next council meeting," Hladík stated. According to him, there are still some matters that need to be discussed. "No zoning plan proposal is perfect, and I approach it the same way. After its issuance, further changes and adjustments will definitely be necessary, that's just how it is. But when I weigh the option of issuing that zoning plan or not issuing it now, the first option still weighs more for me," Hladík stated.
Vaňková mentioned that regarding the draft zoning plan, they had a fairly lengthy meeting with her colleagues from ODS on Tuesday. "Unfortunately, I must state that at this moment, not all our doubts have been dispelled, so for now we have not reached a definitive conclusion and are waiting for the results of further discussions," Vaňková stated. According to her, the biggest problem concerns the matter of the land that the state once transferred to Brno free of charge.
Deputy Mayor Jiří Oliva stated that the city urgently needs the zoning plan and that they would very much like to vote for it. "But it is first necessary to resolve the issue so that the city does not have to return the land it received free of charge from the state, which was issued to the city with the condition that there would be no change to the zoning plan. We want to ensure that the city does not lose those key plots of land," Oliva stated. According to him, it is currently about nine hectares, but it is not ruled out that it may involve a larger area.
