Prague - The Prague councillors will address the amendments to the building regulations only after they receive a letter from the Ministry of Regional Development (MMR). Deputy Mayor Matěj Stropnický (Coalition of Three) said today in response to a CTK inquiry that it will depend on whether the ministry cancels the regulations entirely or just a part of them. According to spokesperson Karel Dlabač, the ministry should send its decision in the coming days. The preparation, commenting, and notification of the amendment requested by the ministry will take about half a year from the council's decision, according to Stropnický. Former Mayor Tomáš Hudeček, under whose leadership the council approved the current regulations, has repeatedly stated in the past that Prague will "not achieve anything" in six months. If the ministry cancels the Prague regulations due to objections and alleged illegality, general rules will apply in the metropolis. The Prague building regulations are an implementing regulation of the Building Act. Even before they came into force in October, they sparked a heated debate. The billboard lobby launched a strong media campaign against them. They opposed the advertising regulation that the regulations impose. In contrast, architects and developers welcomed the change. The city already indicated in December that it would legally challenge any potential cancellation of the regulations.
