Prague - Today, Prague city councilors approved two amendments to building regulations contrary to initial expectations, said Deputy Mayor Matěj Stropnický (GREENS) to journalists today. This decision came after several weeks of delays. The Prague coalition recently even entered a mediation process due to disagreements over the regulations. However, after a few days, the dispute was resolved. The original regulations were annulled by the Ministry for Regional Development due to objections and after a heated public debate in January. "The council agreed after many discussions that it wants to save the Prague building regulations," Stropnický stated. Prague, in agreement with the ministry, will prepare a technical amendment that will replace the problematic sections in the original regulations with references to generally applicable regulations. Such a solution was proposed by Stropnický last December, but he encountered disagreement from the coalition's ČSSD. No notification from the European Commission will be necessary for the technical amendment, which the ministry had requested for the annulled regulations. According to Stropnický, the amendment will be completed within two months. It will remain in effect until new regulations come into force. "The goal is to shorten the time as much as possible during which nationwide regulations will apply," he added. The council also decided to initiate a comprehensive amendment of building regulations that will be more extensive and will replace references to nationwide regulations. If notification is not necessary, this amendment will be effective from September. If the commission requires notification, it will come into effect in January next year. According to Stropnický, the regulations will strengthen the protection of greenery and monuments. They will also tighten the regulation of advertising, not only large-scale but also smaller formats, as well as advertisements on buildings. Parking spaces in the city center will gradually be replaced by underground parking facilities. The councilors also approved a methodological guideline concerning advertising. "In the meantime
