Ostrava - A new concert hall, which is being built as an extension of the House of Culture of the City of Ostrava, is looking for a new name and visual identity for the entire cultural complex. Graphic designers from both the Czech Republic and abroad can enter the competition organized by the future operator DKMO. This was stated today by the company's economic director Petra Javůrková.

According to her, the competition will be two-stage, non-anonymous, and closed. "Based on the submitted portfolios, we will invite five graphic studios to collaborate, all of which will have the opportunity to develop their designs according to the preset task," said Lucie Baránková Vilamová (ANO), deputy mayor of Ostrava. The organization of the competition will be ensured by the company Czechdesign.

The new concert hall with world-class architectural and acoustic parameters, which will provide facilities not only for the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava, is expected to open to visitors in 2028. The new building, designed by the American studio of architect Steven Holl, will be connected to the reconstructed building of the House of Culture of the City of Ostrava, thus creating a modern cultural complex. Visitors can look forward to a concert hall with a capacity of 1,300 seats, a chamber hall for 515 spectators, a theater hall with a capacity of 490 seats, an educational center, a recording studio, a restaurant, and cafés. The new cultural complex will also be the home of the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava.

"The hall with perfect acoustics will provide the orchestra not only with infrastructure but also with space for artistic growth. Thanks to this building, Ostrava is reaching a whole new level of the world cultural scene," stated Jan Žemla, director of the Janáček Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava.

From the perspective of architectural design and technical solution, the building will belong among the most ecological constructions in the Czech Republic, especially due to the use of a closed system of geothermal wells with a network of heat pumps and other technological solutions that will be environmentally friendly and ensure long-term sustainability as well as low operational costs of the complex.
