Prague - Participants in the demonstration supporting Prague's building regulations, among architects, builders, designers, and students, are calling for the resignation of the Minister for Regional Development Karla Šlechtová, the director of her advisory department Lukasz Krynski, and the director of the building regulations department Marcela Pavlová due to the Prague building regulations. They advise the city to reject the suspension of the regulations by the ministry and let the Constitutional Court decide. About 250 people gathered for the demonstration in support of the decree in front of the city hall.

    The new building regulations came into effect in October last year, and the ministry suspended their validity a few days ago. “In those three working days we already know of cases where projects have to be redone. It is becoming clear that financial losses will also occur,” said one of the organizers, architect Josef Smutný.
    According to the organizers of the gathering, the city hall should reject the cancellation of the regulations by the Ministry of Regional Development (MMR) and reinstate the regulations. The ministry would then have to request a decision from the Constitutional Court. The deputy mayor for urban development stated at the demonstration that a draft amendment to the building regulations would be presented at the next, or at the latest, the following council meeting.
    The preparation, comments, and notification of the amendment by the European Commission, as requested by the ministry, will take about six months from the council's decision, according to Stropnický. Currently, until the approval of the amendment, the general building regulations apply across the entire republic. However, according to experts, they are not suitable for use in the Prague agglomeration.
