Osaka – The Japanese non-profit organization ZERI has decided to relocate the private pavilion Blue Ocean Dome, which will be exhibited at the Japan World Expo in Osaka, to the Republic of Maldives after the exhibition concludes. This is reported by the portal JBpress.
Blue Ocean Dome was designed by the world-renowned architect Shigeru Ban. Its structure utilizes paper tubes, materials integrated into bamboo, and building materials made from carbon plastics, which embody ZERI Japan's commitment to sustainability and represent a new architectural innovation that is “strong and light.”
This innovation is the first of its kind in the world and demonstrates the direction of the future of architecture in today's society, where there is a growing demand for support of the circular economy and ESG. The design philosophy of the Expo 2025 World Expo, which aims to achieve efficient resource utilization and sustainable management of the exhibition, is also in line with the practical implementation of this global event’s philosophy.
In the Republic of Maldives, there are plans to relocate the pavilion to a marine resort construction project, which is also designed by Shigeru Ban. Currently, details are being coordinated with the relevant authorities and other stakeholders.
