Brno - Residents of Brno can send comments on the update of the zoning plan through a new website created by Brno activists. The reason for its establishment, according to Jiří Koželouh from the Nesehnutí movement, was the insufficient and complex information presented by the municipality. The association also points out the potential threats arising from the changes on the website. The city hall plans to hold a public discussion about the zoning plan on February 4th. "The city has presented complicated documents with fundamental changes affecting people's lives. It plans to discuss them at a single meeting. This is precisely why we established the new website, which allows citizens to send comments directly to the municipality and to search for comments related to their surroundings on a map," said Koželouh. The city hall is informing the public about the updated version of the Brno zoning plan online. "The concept of the proposal and further information are regularly and permanently published on the city's pages," informed Pavel Žára, spokesperson for the Brno municipality. Activists are dissatisfied that people have trouble navigating the complex documents. "We therefore want to highlight the environmental threats hidden within them. A survey showed that 850 smaller shops closed in Brno, and some city districts do not have enough of them," stated Koželouh. However, the new zoning plan is expected to allow even more extensive construction of shopping centers. "There is a real risk that large centers will arise on areas designated for housing, production, sports, as well as in locations designated for greenery or forests. An example is the Ivanovice Bauhaus, which stands on an area for non-disruptive production and services, or the Bystrc Penny supermarket located in a pure residential area," said Koželouh. Interested parties can send comments online or examine the proposal in person. "It is located in the municipality building at Kounicova Street 67, where a service is always present. Its task is to answer basic questions," noted Žára. A public discussion with expert explanations by the developers will take place on February 4th at 17:00 in the City of Brno Council Hall on Dominican Square.
