Brno – In the next five months, 21 buildings in the areas of Brno Exhibition Centre and the Brno Public Transport Company will be demolished. The demolition is necessary for the construction of a multifunctional hall at the exhibition grounds, which is set to begin at the beginning of next year. This will create space not only for the hall but also for parking and related transportation infrastructure. This was stated today in a press release by the city's mayor, Markéta Vaňková (ODS). It is expected to be completely finished in 2024.
"The joint zoning decision and building permit for three constructions are expected to be issued, namely for the hall itself, part of the surrounding areas, and for waterworks. Earlier this year, Arena Brno, which oversees the activities related to the construction of the hall together with Brno Communications, requested financial support from the South Moravian Region and the National Sports Agency," Vaňková said.
The city is now also looking for an operator for the hall for the first 15 years. In connection with its construction, preparations for the large urban ring road Bauerova are ongoing, the Exhibition Centre is planning new gate and entrance projects, and the public transport company is continuing to expand the Lipová loop and the cable car project to the campus.
The demolition of the buildings will take five months. The demolition will be carried out by the company Morkus Morava for 8.6 million crowns, which was selected by the council today. "There were 17 entities interested in the public contract, the only evaluation criterion of which was the lowest bid price. The winner of the tender is significantly cheaper than the estimated value stated in the tender documentation, which was calculated at 54 million," Vaňková added.
At the same time, the city is negotiating with the management of both companies whose areas will be affected by the demolition about compensation from the city. "In the case of the exhibition grounds, it involves the construction of two new entrances or fencing and the relocation of the freight forwarding. A new operation of the central waste management system is also necessary, as in the case of the public transport company. Additionally, they will also need some new paved areas and roads," specified councilor Petr Kratochvíl (ODS).
The multifunctional hall will have a capacity of up to 13,300 people. It is expected to meet international standards for a variety of sports such as hockey, futsal, volleyball, tennis, basketball, boxing, small football, and figure skating. Additionally, it will be suitable for concerts, musicals, exhibitions, congresses, public events, or ice shows.
