Brno – Brno has an architectural study for the design of a multifunctional hall, which will be built at the exhibition grounds for at least 1.5 billion and will, among other things, host hockey team Kometa. Based on the study, project documentation will be created, which is expected to be completed in October, said the mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková (ODS), to ČTK. In addition to sports, the hall will also serve culture, with a capacity of up to 13,300 people.
The study was prepared by the consortium of companies A Plus and Arch.Design, which will also work on the project documentation for the joint territorial and building permit proceedings. "It should be completed in October so that a request for a territorial decision and building permit can be submitted by the end of the year," Vaňková stated.
According to her, the designers aimed to situate the hall within the exhibition grounds. "It will be right next to Pavilion Z and will resemble it a bit. Everything will, of course, still be in development," noted Vaňková. The project reflects the comments of municipal companies and organizations involved in the realization, such as Veletrhy Brno, Brno Communications, and the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno.
The hall will host the hockey players of Kometa. "We also expect other types of sports. For sports, the spectator capacity will be around 12,000, while for cultural events, the capacity will be up to 13,300 viewers. It depends on whether the audience will be standing or sitting," Vaňková said.
According to her, the construction of the hall will cost at least 1.5 billion crowns. "It will depend on what elements we incorporate into the hall. We want it to meet ecological standards, which would mean a higher investment," the mayor said. According to her, Brno is primarily counting on financing, while no private sources are anticipated. "We would be pleased if the state and the region contributed. We are negotiating with them, but we do not have any final positions yet," Vaňková added.
