Brno – Brno is looking for a company to construct a new multifunctional hall at the exhibition grounds with an estimated cost of up to four billion crowns excluding VAT. The Mayor of Brno, Markéta Vaňková (ODS), announced the initiation of the tender process to journalists today. According to her, the selection process should last about six months, and the company will have 30 months for the actual construction. The hall, with a capacity of up to 13,000 visitors, is intended for sports, cultural, and social events.
Today, the city council approved the initiation of the tender process. "The contract with the contractor will cover not only the construction of the hall building itself but also the construction of parking facilities and access roads or utility networks. For this reason, the project is being jointly awarded by the city of Brno and three city companies, specifically Brněnské komunikace, Arena Brno, and Teplárny Brno," Vaňková stated.
According to her, the estimated value in the documentation ranges from 3.7 to four billion crowns excluding VAT. The initial price was supposed to be lower but has increased due to the rising costs of construction materials. "Since this is a high-value public contract, it can be expected that the tender process itself may take approximately six months, provided there are no issues. The winning company will then have 30 months from the handover of the construction site for the actual building," Vaňková added.
To clarify ownership relations and efficient management of the hall construction and infrastructure, the council approved a change in the ownership of the land where the construction will take place. "The land on which the multifunctional hall will stand will be purchased from Veletrhy Brno by another city company, Arena Brno. The price will be determined by an expert assessment. The land for the adjacent parking areas and access roads will be transferred from the property of the exhibition grounds to the ownership of Brněnské komunikace," added Transportation Councillor and board member of both city companies, Petr Kratochvíl (ODS).
The facility will have two underground and six above-ground floors and will offer 150 covered parking spaces. The venue is expected to accommodate various events, including matches for the hockey team Kometa. According to the city, the facility will have 30 different ways of utilization.
