Brno – Brno is preparing to build a multifunctional hall costing almost 1.5 billion crowns for up to 12,000 spectators. The hall is to be located at the exhibition grounds and according to plans, it should serve the hockey players of Kometa and other purposes. According to Brno's mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS), the aim is to build the hall so that it can host the hockey championship in 2024. Considerations for building halls are also taking place in Vyškov and Břeclav, but no specific plan has yet been developed, CTK learned from the spokespeople of the town halls. After the Velvet Revolution, multifunctional halls were built in Hodonín and in Brno on Vodová Street.

The hall, where Kometa would play among others, was originally supposed to be located behind Lužánky. However, the city is dealing with property disputes there. Kometa won the title in the highest hockey league two years ago after 51 years and defended it last year. Therefore, politicians started talking about the possibility of the hall being at the exhibition grounds. This year, Brno and the region agreed with the state to participate in financing the construction in the range of hundreds of millions of crowns. Currently, the hockey players play in the DRFG Arena with a capacity of 7,700 spectators, which often does not meet public interest.

After the revolution in 1989, a multifunctional hall was built in Brno for about 80 million, which serves multiple purposes. A large hall was added in Vodová Street in 2001 to a smaller hall that was built during the previous regime. The halls are mainly used for ball sports, but concerts and similar events are also held there. The larger hall has a capacity of 2,900 people for sports events. It can be expanded to 5,500 seats for concerts including standing room. The smaller hall has a seating capacity of 900, and during concerts, it can accommodate 1,400 people using the playing area for standing. This was reported to CTK by the spokesperson of the Brno City Hall, Filip Poňuchálek.

There is also a multifunctional hall in Hodonín. It was built in 2005 for 176 million crowns, said the spokesperson of the Hodonín town hall, Petra Kotásková. The region donated land for the hall, the state provided almost 100 million, and the rest was covered by Hodonín. The hall serves for handball, futsal, floorball, basketball, as well as dance competitions, martial arts, gymnastics, or model aircraft. The Czech Cadet and Junior Open in table tennis is also held there annually.

Thoughts about a multifunctional hall exist in Břeclav. "One of the considered options is the reconstruction of one of the halls in the area of the former sugar factory, but no specific steps have been taken yet," said the town hall spokesperson Jiří Holobrádek to CTK. According to him, the city currently has no idea how the hall would look and what opportunities it would offer, but it would certainly be a matter of tens of millions of crowns. Considerations about the hall are also taking place in Vyškov, but according to its spokesperson Michal Kočí, no specific idea has yet emerged.

Blansko, according to spokesman Ondřej Požár, does not plan any multifunctional hall, as it already has two for various purposes from the time of the former regime. One is located on Údolní Street and the other on Sport Island.
