Brno - Demolition of buildings began today at the Brno exhibition center, which will make way for a future multifunctional hall and parking lot. Radka Loukotová from the city hall's press office informed about this. The hall will cost 3.3 billion Czech crowns, including additional expenses such as the construction of the parking lot. The hall will have a capacity of 13,000 spectators.
A total of 21 buildings in the Brno Exhibition Center and the Brno Public Transport Company area are designated for demolition. "Demolition is another necessary step. We need to gain space for the hall itself, as well as for the parking area and related transport infrastructure, because we plan to start construction early next year. Test operations could begin as early as the end of 2023, with full completion expected in 2024," said Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS) earlier.
The process of demolishing the buildings owned by the Brno Exhibition Center, the public transport company, and the city will take five months. The work is being carried out by the company MORKUS Morava, costing approximately 8.6 million crowns. "Seventeen entities were interested in the public contract, for which the only evaluation criterion was the lowest bid price. The tender winner is significantly cheaper than the estimated value mentioned in the tender documentation, which was calculated at 54 million," the mayor added.
Brno has a legally binding land-use decision and building permit for the multifunctional hall. The building will be located at the exhibition center next to Pavilion Z. It will serve sports, culture, and social events. The hockey club Kometa Brno is expected to play in the hall.
The city is seeking a grant of hundreds of millions from the National Sports Agency, as well as funding from various ministries. For the remainder, the city intends to take a part of the loan, a portion of the loan by the municipal company Arena Brno, and some funds are also sought from the National Development Fund.
