Brno – The team of the Office of the Architect of the City of Brno (KAM) has prepared an analysis of Brno, which will serve, for example, for the preparation of the urban plan, spatial studies, or for decision-making on construction projects. The updated analytical materials gather data from the last four years. They concern, for example, the most common types of development or the capacity of hospitals, said city company spokesperson Jana Běhalová in a press release today.
The analysis shows, for example, that the average age of Brno residents is 42.9 years, the average annual air temperature is 9.4 degrees Celsius, IBM is among the most progressive companies, and from January 2015 to July 2020, the average price for one square meter of an apartment increased by almost 70 percent.
This update of the materials was processed by KAM for the first time. "The data are closely linked to the preparation of a new urban plan, the draft of which we are now completing after last year's discussions and comments. The materials are essentially the output of the ongoing monitoring of the city, showing where the city has its limits and what Brno should prioritize. They help to make better decisions about the further development of the city," said the office director Michal Sedláček.
The document consists of maps, graphs, and accompanying texts describing the status and development of various thematic areas, from landscape and the environment, to the use and functioning of the city, the composition of the population, and traffic and technical infrastructure. It also addresses economic conditions and the availability of shops and services.
New topics such as public spaces and the vertical arrangement of buildings in the city have appeared. "We also expanded the sociodemographic and socioeconomic data, monitoring, for example, what population growth we can expect in the future in Brno and how the business infrastructure of the city is changing," specified social geographer KAM Jiří Malý.
Unlike previous years, the data is newly processed in a GIS system, in which the office is also preparing the draft of the new urban plan. The materials are publicly accessible on the city's website. KAM is striving to open them to the public as much as possible and plans to transfer part of them into web mapping applications in the future. The last complete update of the Spatial Analytical Materials of the City of Brno was in 2016, and another one will need to be conducted by the end of 2024.
