Brno - The Open Brno Association has launched the website www.uzemniplanbrno.cz, where people can enter their requests for the design of a new zoning plan into an interactive map. The proposal was published last week and is set to come into effect in 2022, the association stated in a press release. The comments will be based on the inputs received. So far, individuals must submit their comments to the council by May 13. However, the Ministry of the Interior has requested Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS) to reconsider this deadline in light of the current situation.

"Open Brno calls for cooperation from all initiatives and associations dealing with issues such as the environment, gardening, urban greenery, tree preservation, as well as urbanism or parking issues, to participate in commenting on the zoning plan draft," stated Marek Lupač on behalf of the association.

Currently, there are about 20 comments on the website. People are dissatisfied with planned developments in certain areas, maximum building heights, proposed roads, or they miss some bike paths that are already part of the participatory budget and are planned for construction.

"We will also offer online discussions and the opportunity for consultations with experts in urban planning, transportation, or law. We are trying to help active individuals quickly orient themselves in the zoning plan, to learn about each other, and if necessary, to defend their interests," said Jakub Kořínek on behalf of the association, who is also a member of the urban planning and development commission of the City Council of Brno.

A public discussion of the plan is currently scheduled for May 6. The proposal is also fully available on the website and at the office on Kounicova Street 67. However, it is virtually impossible to access it legally during the quarantine, which criticizes Petr Firbas, representing part of the public in the discussion of various urban planning documents in South Moravia. At his urging, the Ministry of the Interior requested the mayor to reconsider the deadlines for discussions and comment submissions. Vaňková has not yet responded to a CTK inquiry on Saturday about how she will address the request.
