Brno - The Brno City Hall received around 4000 submissions on the revised proposal for a new zoning plan. Compared to last year, this is about half as many. The total number of individual requests will be known after the record-keeping is completed at the turn of July and August. Filip Poňuchálek, the spokesperson for the city hall, stated this to ČTK. The city published the revised proposal in mid-May, and it was possible to comment on it until June 29.
Last year, after the public discussion, over 8000 submissions were received, totaling more than 36,000 individual objections and comments. The Office of the Architect of the City of Brno dealt with them for almost a year. City councilor Filip Chvátal (KDU-ČSL), who is responsible for urban planning, perceives the current number of submissions as positive feedback. He stated this to ČTK.
One of the long-term major topics is greenery in the city. According to urban planners, the revised proposal was supposed to further strengthen its protection. However, objections were raised by organizations such as Nesehnutí, which claims that the current proposal does not adequately respond to the climate crisis. The objection, signed by more than 400 Brno residents, seeks more thorough protection of greenery and public spaces, better conditions for cycling, and clearer formulation of the plan itself.
"Many other representatives and representatives of the public from civic initiatives, numbering nearly two dozen, have submitted their objections. Their main concerns were the insufficient protection of greenery and gardens, the threat to the community park Hvězdička, or the planned excessive construction in the peripheral parts of the city," stated Marek Hadrbolec on behalf of Nesehnutí.
According to Chvátal, there is a willingness to strengthen the protection of greenery. "We will now be reading legal opinions regarding what constitutes a substantial change to the zoning plan that generates a public discussion. There is room for further protection of greenery, but the problem lies in the process," the councilor said.
It is now necessary to address the objections and comments again. The revised proposal will be submitted to the city representatives for approval. The new zoning plan will be issued by the end of 2022, when the validity of the current plan from 1994 expires.
