He was born in 1975 in Prague. He studied at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in Prague under Prof. Lábus and Prof. Šrámková and at ETH Zurich under Prof. Eberle. After completing internships in two studios, he has been leading his own studio, Pavel Hnilička Architects + Planners, since 2003.
He focuses on the design and implementation of buildings, as well as urban and regulatory plans for towns and municipalities.
One of the key subjects of his interest is the relationship between theory and practice in design. He is the author of the book "Residential Mash - Questions on Suburban Development of Family Houses" (2005, 2012), "Yearbook of Czech Architecture 2009-2010", co-author of the publication "Sub Urbs: Landscape, Settlements and People" (2013), "Density and Economics of Cities" (2018), and the author of several articles on urbanism and architecture. He promotes urbanism through lectures, conferences, and seminars. He received the Grand Prix for Architecture in 2008 in the new building category.
From 2007 to 2010, he taught at the Faculty of Architecture of the Czech Technical University in the Institute of Urbanism. Between 2012 and 2014, he led the preparation of new Prague building regulations at the Institute of Planning and Development of the City of Prague, which were awarded the Czech Architecture Award in 2016 for exceptional contributions to the field. From 2014 to 2018, he served as vice-chairman of the Czech Chamber of Architects.
