Most - The city of Most will demolish two empty apartment blocks in the Chanov district still this year. The winning company will carry out the demolition for approximately 3.2 million crowns including VAT. The original cost estimate was over 12 million crowns. Mayor Jan Paparega told journalists today. Demolition will also occur in the neighboring Litvínov, with the state covering 80 percent of the demolition costs.

The uninhabited buildings in the Chanov housing estate are deteriorating and filling up with trash. One of the blocks is a smaller four-story panel building, while the other is seven stories tall. "Given safety, we were in favor of the quickest possible demolition of the buildings," said Paparega.

The public contract was won by the company APB Plzeň with the lowest bid, with a total of 13 applicants. "The difference between the estimate and the actual price really surprised us," noted the mayor. The savings on the contract amount to 80 percent. The construction debris will be reused by the company, and in spring, they will plant grass and shrubs on the site.

There are also some other panel houses in poor condition in Chanov. "If I evaluate it in terms of complaints from the residents of Chanov, this part of the city is completely problem-free; they are capable of resolving their issues through their own lines," said Paparega.

Litvínov will demolish the former Bílý sloup lodgings. The costs for the demolition of six single-story buildings, which had a capacity of 120 places, were estimated by the city hall at ten million crowns. Also in Litvínov, the amount was reduced after the competition to 3.3 million crowns including VAT. The winning company will have to deal with asbestos in some parts of the buildings during the work. Demolition will also begin this year. A park will be created on the site of the lodgings. Cities must first cover the costs, and the Ministry for Regional Development will reimburse them afterwards.

The program for the demolition of empty houses in socially excluded areas has been announced by the ministry for three years. It will release 100 million crowns annually.

There are many houses in a state of emergency in northern Bohemia. A condition for the grant is that the building must be owned by the municipality. This year, alongside Most and Litvínov, five other municipalities successfully applied for a grant in the Ústí region.
