Most – In the Chanov housing estate in Most, which is mainly inhabited by Roma, another panel house has begun to be demolished, which its tenants have completely destroyed. The city is paying for the work from its own funds. Klára Vydrová, spokesperson for the Most city hall, told ČTK today. Next year, alternative housing will be created for the residents of the district. The project for modular houses is completed, and the city representatives will present the visualization to the citizens in the fall.

The city of Most has decided to demolish for safety and aesthetic reasons, according to Vydrová. "Part of the old panel house is already gone, and the demolition should be completed this weekend. This will be followed by the removal of debris," Vydrová stated.

The city hall has applied for a state subsidy for the project, just as in the past, but it was not granted. The budget for municipalities has significantly decreased in the program. The original estimated cost of demolition was nine million crowns.

The demolition is being carried out by the company Speciální stavby Most for 1.8 million crowns excluding VAT. The price includes not only the demolition itself but also the removal of materials, their disposal, and land improvement.

After its completion at the end of the 1980s, the estate had 13 buildings; after the demolition of block No. 3, there will be eight left. The apartments in the panel houses belong to the city. The city hall management wants to offer alternative housing to people in the form of modular houses.

Originally, there were 400 apartments in the estate, in which, according to the city's estimates, between 1,000 and 2,000 people could live. "Last year, 1,171 people had permanent residence in Chanov. In reality, less than 700 people lived there. The total number of apartments was 253," Vydrová told ČTK. Most has 28,840 apartments in residential buildings, of which 65 percent are in panel houses.
