Most - Most wants to transform the Chanov housing estate into a container town. The first containers could be located in the district where predominantly Roma people live, next year. People living in devastated panel buildings could move there. Most is gradually having them demolished. This was said today by Deputy Mayor Marek Hrvol (Severočeši) to reporters.
According to Hrvol, the city no longer wants to invest in the repair of panel buildings in a deplorable condition. With the help of a state grant, the city hall had two demolished, and is now applying for money from the Ministry for Regional Development for another block. At the same time, city management would welcome if people in the district stayed. "If we want to demolish a building, we have to evacuate them. We want to offer them an alternative in the form of simple container housing in an anti-vandal version. The goal is that Chanov should be an overall container town," said Hrvol.
Most now wants to demolish block 3 in Chanov, which currently has 18 occupied apartments. "We want to build the containers first and then demolish. If people do not want to move into the container, we will settle the lease agreement," said Hrvol. According to him, the technical condition of the houses is in a catastrophic state. Blocks 6 and 10 should be next in line.
Containers can be built in a very short time, according to Hrvol, it takes about two weeks. "The number of apartments in the first phase could be around twenty," said Hrvol. The cost of providing one container varies according to size from 200,000 to 700,000 crowns. The investment will be included in the budget proposal for next year.
According to city management, the exact number of residents in Chanov cannot be determined precisely; the area is mainly populated by Roma families with children. In the last elections, which took place in the fall for the House of Representatives, there were 765 registered eligible voters in the district in the second round.
The Chanov housing estate was established in the late 1980s. Residents completely destroyed several houses, and the city had some buildings demolished years ago. By the end of last year, excavators had demolished two buildings.
Container houses for Roma were built twelve years ago in Vsetín. Their construction was advocated by the then mayor of the city and current governor Jiří Čunek (KDU-ČSL).
