Most – Next year, Most will demolish another devastated panel building in the Chanov housing estate, which is primarily inhabited by Roma. Currently, five apartments are occupied here, for which the city will seek alternative accommodation for the tenants. The municipality does not currently plan to use so-called container housing due to the rising costs of construction work, said Deputy Mayor Marek Hrvol (ProMOST).
The proposed budget for 2022 includes an amount of six million crowns for demolition. In the past, the city has requested state grants for the work, which it has received several times. The last demolition was of Block 3, and the municipality covered the costs itself. The original estimate was nine million crowns, while the amount resulting from the tender was 1.8 million crowns.
The Ministry for Regional Development does not plan to announce a call for the program for the Demolition of Buildings in Socially Excluded Localities for 2022. This was stated today by ministry spokesman Vilém Frček. Throughout the entire operation of the program, 171 projects were supported for approximately 444 million crowns. Currently, about 285 million crowns has been exhausted. "However, municipalities will be able to use the Brownfields program, which is managed by the State Fund for Support of Investments, for demolition or partial removal of the structure," the spokesman stated.
The city leadership of Most had planned to build simple modular housing in Chanov. However, the costs for acquiring a container with eighteen units reached 35 million crowns. "We would not achieve the planned savings, so we suspended the project," Hrvol stated.
After its completion at the end of the 1980s, the housing estate had 13 buildings with 400 apartments, in which, according to city estimates, between 1,000 to 2,000 people could live. Currently, there are eight buildings in Chanov, housing approximately 700 people. Since 2002, the city has demolished five structures. Unlike other locations, there are enough apartments in Most, so the municipality does not plan any residential construction.
