Most – The city of Most has announced a contract for the construction of a modular apartment building in the Chanov housing estate. The start of construction on the building, which will consist of eighteen apartments, is expected in May of this year. The estimated value of the contract is nearly 30 million crowns excluding VAT. This is evident from the published information. Tenants will be chosen by the Department of Social Affairs.

The city leadership views modular housing as a better solution than repairing the current blocks. Some opposition councilors hold a different opinion. "We still believe that it would be possible to renovate the existing blocks with the help of a subsidy, which could save the city a significant amount of money that will now be spent on container housing, approximately 1.5 million crowns per family," said councilor Jan Hrubeš (Pirates and Greens for Most) to ČTK.

In the past, the city had several devastated panel houses torn down in the housing estate predominantly inhabited by Roma. "This is not about expanding a socially excluded area, we simply want to replace a capacity that we should not utilize with one that would correspond to current trends and hygiene standards," said Mayor Jan Paparega (ProMOST) to ČTK a week ago.

The new building will consist of so-called containers. Interested parties can submit bids until April 1, with the winner being determined by price. The costs will be covered by the city from its own budget. The municipal authorities plan to present the project to the residents of Chanov as soon as the epidemic situation allows.
