Most – There will be no modular housing development this year in the Chanov housing estate in Most. The city canceled the public contract. The city hall is now addressing housing solutions for families living in unsatisfactory apartments in the panel buildings. Mayor Jan Paparega (ProMOST) told reporters this today.
The city leadership considered modular housing to be a better solution than repairing the existing blocks. In March, it announced a contract for the construction of a modular apartment building. The construction of a building with eighteen apartments was planned before the summer holidays. The estimated value of the contract was about 30 million crowns excluding VAT.
The lowest bid in the competition was 35.5 million crowns excluding VAT. "By law, we had to cancel the contract because it exceeded the estimated value. We will discuss with the councilors how we will proceed with Chanov, because it is economically unfeasible for the city to spend 45 million crowns on the construction of eighteen housing units, especially at this time when municipal budgets are not being fulfilled," stated the mayor. The city hall will now investigate how many people live in apartments that will not have heating secured from the next heating season due to their deplorable condition.
In the past, the city demolished several devastated panel buildings in the housing estate mainly inhabited by Roma. The new building was to take the form of so-called containers. There was opposition to its construction from part of the opposition. "We still believe that with the help of a grant, it would be possible to renovate the existing blocks, which would allow the city to save a lot of money," said opposition councilor Jan Hrubeš (Pirates and Greens for Most) to CTK in March.
After the completion at the end of the 1980s, the housing estate had 13 buildings; today there are eight. The apartments in the panel buildings belong to the city.
