Most - The project documentation for container housing, which is to be created in the socially excluded locality of Chanov in Most, is public. This was stated today by the server Romea.cz. The documentation indicates that a three-story block made up of individual containers with 18 apartments is to be built behind the roundabout on Zlatnická Street. The city intends to construct the modular building next year, and 25 million crowns have been allocated for it in the proposed city budget. The project is opposed by a petition from the residents of the housing estate.

The publication of the project documentation was achieved despite significant obstruction from the city council by opposition representative Adam Komenda (Pirates). "Experts, such as architects and urban planners, are currently analyzing the project. Opinions on the project should be known within weeks," Komenda stated in a press release sent to the news server Romea.cz.

The leadership wants to present the visualization of the new type of housing to the residents of Chanov as soon as possible, but the date of the presentation is still unknown due to the coronavirus epidemic. "We are addressing the presentation in Chanov considering the events around the coronavirus. I believe that a public discussion will be possible rather at the turn of the year. In any case, we will hold it before the implementation or announcement of the public contract," said Deputy Mayor Marek Hrvol (Better North) according to Mostecký deník. Komenda wants independent experts, whom he has contacted himself, to also present their views at this meeting.

Residents of Chanov have initiated a second petition against the construction of the containers, which they call "Čunkodomy," and have also created an online version. The term "Čunkodomy" derives from a project that was promoted years ago by its former mayor and former Zlín governor Jiří Čunek (KDU-ČSL) in Vsetín. The petition has even been signed by the former Minister for Human Rights Džamila Stehlíková. Due to the planned construction of the containers in Chanov, the Agency for Social Inclusion has also ended its cooperation with the city of Most.

The estate originally had 400 apartments, in which an estimated 1,000 to 2,000 people could live. "Last year, 1,171 people had permanent residence in Chanov. In reality, fewer than 700 people lived there. The total number of apartments was 253," said city hall spokesperson Klára Vydrová to ČTK.
