Brno - Officials from the South Moravian Regional Office have less than two months to address hundreds of suggestions sent by the public regarding the proposal for a new regional spatial plan. There were 175 objections and comments received, some of which contain dozens of points, said David Macek (KDU-ČSL), the regional councilor responsible for spatial planning, to ČTK. According to him, despite the high number of suggestions, the new regional spatial plan, known as the principles of territorial development, will be approved by the representatives in June. If they do so, the document will come into effect in July. Objections can be submitted by municipalities and so-called public representatives who gather enough signatures for it. An objection carries more weight than a comment, and each objection will be voted on separately by the council, Macek added. Comments submitted by individuals will be addressed by the officials. The council can reject the objections. However, they must justify their disregard. Rejections can then be challenged in court. Some opponents of the planned transportation constructions have already indicated that they will do so. By all means, they want to defend themselves, for example, the mayors of municipalities and city districts in the southwest of Brno. They are concerned about the proposed highway intersections. For instance, in Brno-Bosonohy, noise and dust from traffic already exceeds hygienic limits, emphasized councilor Marie Špačková during the discussion of the planned regional spatial plan for Bosonohy. Macek previously stated that he understands the objections of the residents of Bosonohy. However, measures for dust and noise reduction, including possible compensations, must be part of the subsequent steps - territorial and building proceedings for the roads. The deadline for submitting objections and comments expired on Tuesday, when a public discussion was also held. It lasted five hours, but most of the time was taken by presentations from officials and authors of the proposed solution. According to Macek, it could not be shortened further to comply with the law. The method of discussion was criticized by the Environmental Law Service, which stated that it corresponds to a "somewhat forceful approach of the region to the discussed spatial plan". The organization criticized that people were always given only three minutes to express their opinions, after which the moderator turned off their microphones. Furthermore, they could only speak once, and that was when most of the regional representatives had long left the room. "The representative of 3000 citizens from Tuřany got six hundredths of a second for each," the Environmental Law Service stated in a press release.
