The regional plan for South Moravia will be publicly discussed only online

Brno - The public discussion of the proposed update of the principles of territorial development of the South Moravian Region will not take place in the standard manner with the public in a large congress hall, but only online, on June 9. People will be able to ask questions and make comments via a free telephone line, with a limit of three minutes, said the region's spokesperson Monika Brindzáková in a press release. Whether the region consulted this approach with the Ministry of the Interior, which supervises the activities of regions and municipalities, is being investigated by ČTK.

The region is in a similar situation as Brno. Its leadership had to postpone the public discussion of the territorial plan from May to June due to the state of emergency and the ban on gathering larger numbers of people due to COVID-19. Unlike the region, however, Brno has planned a standard public discussion in June at the exhibition center, to take place over two consecutive days. They added phone inquiries only as an option. Whether the region considered a similar model is being investigated by ČTK. The press release states that at the beginning of May, the region decided that the public discussion would take place in the form of remote access.

The South Moravian Region aims for the deputies to approve the update in September so that it can subsequently be issued and valid. The preparation of road or highway 43 from highway D1 through Brno further north depends on it. Only after the issuance of the updated principles will the route of this communication be established. Currently, the principles only contain territorial reserves, so it cannot be prepared in any way.

I am convinced that our office is doing everything to ensure that the regional principles are processed precisely according to the law, which has already been confirmed by the court several times, and as such will be presented for final voting to the deputies of the South Moravian Region in the autumn," said Governor Bohumil Šimek (ANO).

According to Deputy Governor Martin Maleček (Mayors for South Moravia), representatives of the region and the designer will answer all accepted questions sequentially, adhering to the order of their submission. "All details about the public discussion can be found on the region's official board, where we inform about the procedure in a public notice," said Maleček.
