Brno - Brno wants the South Moravian Region to invite the city to participate in the creation of a study that will answer how significant transport routes will lead in Brno and the surrounding area. The regional principles of spatial development, approved last year, left part of the region unresolved. The study will be the basis for their update. Brno demands maximum protection for residents against adverse health effects of transport constructions, according to a document approved by the council, which was provided to ČTK today by Deputy Mayor Martin Ander (SZ).
Only when the principles are updated will it be possible to prepare key transport constructions. This mainly concerns the D43 motorway from Brno to the north, the expansion of the D1 motorway around Brno, and the resolution of the road network south of Brno. It is expected that the study should be completed so that the principles of spatial development are updated by no later than 2020.
The D43 route is controversial. Brno wants different variants to be assessed and the most suitable one selected. "So that the study can then serve as a relevant basis for the preparation of the urban plan for Brno," states the city council. The northern motorway is to lead from the D1 motorway either along the path of the wartime project known as Hitler's motorway, that is, through Brno and the Brno Dam, or further west through the Boskovice Basin.
The question is also the motorway network in the south of Brno, where D1, D2, and D52 intersect. "The connection of these motorways needs to be verified in order to find the most suitable and effective solution with the least possible impact on the environment and people's health, and to make maximum use of the existing communications," requests Brno.
The expansion of the D1 motorway around Brno is also planned. Therefore, the city requests that it be examined whether this could be done using collectors, i.e., separate lanes. At the same time, the study should determine the conditions for investments for the expansion of the D1 to minimize harmful impacts on the surroundings.
Brno also requested that each completed stage of the study be discussed in both the city council and with the city districts.
Last year, the South Moravian Region was the last of all regions to approve the spatial development principles. Because of this, it was not possible to prepare key transport constructions.
