From the former shooting range in Prachatice, a sports and social center is to be created

Prachatice - Prachatice want to transform the area of the former shooting range into a sports, cultural, and relaxation center. This will involve the reconstruction of two buildings, where facilities such as a bike rental, athlete accommodations, a restaurant, a community center, and lodging would be created. Around the area, builders are expected to construct playgrounds for athletes and children. The city management has approached three architectural studios and selected a proposal from the Skupina studio, which prepared a feasibility study. This was stated by Mayor Jan Bauer (ODS) to ČTK.

"The architects will complete the study in its final version by the end of this year. Then, the design of some stages will begin," Bauer said. However, it is still unclear when the city might begin work. The area of the former shooting range connects to the current development, and the city plans further extensive construction of family houses and villa homes over an area of 16 hectares.

According to the architectural proposal, the area would be passable. "We wrapped the entire building in a red-stained wooden shell, with walkable galleries. An outdoor patio for the restaurant will be created on the ground floor. The area could house football fields, beach volleyball courts, a pétanque area, a workout space, and a ping pong area. A forest playground with a water element will be built for children. There will also be a smaller square in the area. The greenery will be preserved and enhanced with trees to provide shade and relaxation space," said architect Marcela Steinbachová from the Skupina studio. A running track would lead around the sports area, and a covered colonnade would pass through the area.

Inside the larger building, the ground floor would contain a reception, restaurant, bike rental, rental of other sports equipment, and facilities for athletes. The first floor could provide accommodation for up to 10 people. Two halls are intended for exercise or dancing. A covered terrace would be created on the roof, according to the study.

"The small shooting range building would be more of a community center, it could have a children's group, a club room, or the space could be rented out," Steinbachová said.

"I do not expect that it will cost 250 million CZK in the future, which is the maximalist option including a sports hall, which I believe won't even be necessary there,” said Bauer. The estimated investment for the reconstruction of the buildings, construction of playgrounds, and improvement of the surroundings ranges from 90 to 120 million CZK. According to the mayor, the reconstruction would be carried out in several stages.
