Prague - The demolition of unused buildings has begun at Smíchov station. They are to make way for the first phase of the new Smíchov City district, which the Sekyra Group is expected to start constructing at the end of the year. The demolition was first reported by the iDnes.cz website. Leoš Anderle, the CEO of Sekyra Group, told ČTK that the demolition currently concerns small structures and will last no longer than a month.
The director added that, in addition to demolition, the removal of unused tracks has also begun. The work is part of the first phase of Smíchov City, which includes two residential blocks in the northern part of the area near Na Knížecí locality. This area is expected to mainly have apartments, but also offices and retail space.
Construction of more than 400 apartments and 9,500 m² of office space is scheduled to begin at the end of this year, according to the developer's plans, and will take about two and a half years. The costs are estimated at around three billion crowns. All phases of the project could be completed in 15 to 20 years.
In total, Smíchov City could accommodate up to 3,300 people, and there are plans for approximately 190,000 m² of space for services, shopping, and offices. There will also be a new headquarters for Česká spořitelna, for which an international architectural competition has been announced. The project for Prague Smíchov station includes a multi-story P+R parking lot, and buses from the Na Knížecí terminal will be relocated closer to the railway station. The new district has been planned since the 1990s.
