Jeseník - The renovation of the building of the Primary School in Jeseník on Nábřežní Street, which was devastated by flooding last autumn, will cost between 50 and 100 million crowns. The city already has a study prepared by architects. One of the key goals of the project is to build a modern school kitchen and dining hall. Renovation will begin in the fall; during the summer holidays, builders will remove asbestos from the school’s structure, spokesperson for the Jeseník town hall Markéta Kaniová said today.
"Repairs are complicated by the fact that the building's structure is made of partitions containing asbestos. Currently, this does not pose any risk, but it will need to be removed before construction begins. The removal is planned for the summer holidays," said the school principal Dominik Liberda.
In the fall, when the children are already studying on the first floor, the modernization of the building should commence. The architects have developed the first version of the reconstruction study, which details adjustments to common areas. "The architects work with a characteristic color palette and combine vertical arrangements with circular motifs, thereby lightening the original architectural structure of the spaces. The entire design visually opens up and brightens the school," described the upcoming changes Liberda. According to him, the spatial solution relates to the planned kitchen and dining hall with self-service dining. One of the key goals of the project is indeed to build a modern school kitchen and dining hall. "So far, food has been delivered to Nábřežní, but after the reconstruction, conditions should be created for better organization of school catering and improved food quality," noted the spokesperson of the town hall.
The costs for the reconstruction have not yet been calculated; the principal estimates them at between 50 and 100 million crowns. In the optimistic scenario, students could change, learn, dine, and spend their free time in the new premises starting from the 2026/2027 school year. Until then, classes will partially take place in a modular school that was opened in mid-December on the adjacent playground.
The modular school in Jeseník, which replaces the damaged spaces of the school building, was opened in mid-December. The container-built school created space for six classrooms, a school club, and facilities for school catering, and there are also offices for school administration and staff. The modular school has also been used by primary school students from the four kilometers distant Česká Ves since early December. The building, made from 62 containers and housing 14 classrooms, is utilized by about 200 children. The original school building in Česká Ves is also awaiting reconstruction. The costs are estimated to be as high as 60 million crowns.
