Prague – The Czech participation in Expo 2025, which will begin in Osaka on April 13, received a building permit for the national pavilion on Wednesday. The physical inspection of the construction lasted three days, and the decision took 14 days to be made. The permanent exhibition is still being installed, sound and lighting are being fine-tuned, and final details are being addressed, said Jana Kohoutová, spokesperson for the Czech participation at Expo 2025, today to ČTK.

Expo 2025 in Osaka on Jumejima Island will open its doors in ten days and will run until October 13, 2025. The Czech pavilion has a prestigious location in the exhibition area.

The general commissioner of the Czech participation, Ondřej Soška, described the permit as a milestone that signifies that the Czech Republic is officially ready. According to him, many people doubted the possibility of realizing such an ambitious project in a short time.

"We have proven that we can design and implement an exceptionally challenging project that will once again amaze the world. At the same time, we have shown that we are reliable partners, that we can build with quality, modernity, and on time – and moreover in Japan, which is known for its absolute rigor," Soška said.

Preparations in Japan are reaching their peak. According to Soška, the Czechs have reached the first half among the approved pavilions. On Monday, they also completed the final inspection of the kitchen, and the restaurant can start its operations.

An open and anonymous architectural competition was held for the design of the pavilion. From 38 competing teams, a professional jury led by architect Eva Jiřičná selected the winning design in March 2023, shaped like a glass spiral from Apropos Architects studio. The load-bearing structure of the 17-meter-high building consists of modern wooden panels, and the facade is made of artistic glass. The pavilion will feature a permanent exhibition, a multifunctional auditorium, facilities for business meetings, a restaurant, a lounge, and a terrace. In front of the pavilion, a relaxation zone with a view of the sea will be available for visitors.

A cultural program has also been developed for the six-month duration of the world exhibition, with original uniforms prepared. The Czech National Day will take place on Thursday, July 24, for example with the participation of the Czech Philharmonic in a joint performance with Cirk La Putyka. The date was chosen to coincide with the birth of the popular painter Alphonse Mucha in Japan in 1860.

The government is planning a budget of 290.2 million crowns for the Czech participation in the expo. The Czech Republic will participate in the world exhibition Expo as an independent state for the sixth time.
