Brno - The Brno city council today selected a consortium of companies that will build an athletic hall in the university campus for 649 million crowns. Deputy Mayor Richard Mrázek (ANO) told reporters today. The hall for 2000 people will be built by the consortium of companies Imos Brno, Hochtief cz, and Sport Construction. The hall is expected to be completed in 2021. It will provide a base for athletes who do not have a facility in South Moravia.

The council selected the consortium as the most suitable offer. "The selected company has 35 months to complete the construction, including the issuance of zoning decisions and building permits. The actual construction is anticipated to take 19 months," said Mrázek. The costs will be shared between the city, the state, and the region.

This is the first time Brno has sought a contractor for the hall under the conditions of the so-called Yellow Book. This means that the winning bidder will prepare all stages of the project documentation and construct the hall. The facility will have one floor underground and two above ground. Part of the audience seating will be mobile to allow the space to be used for other purposes.

Brno has previously committed to building the hall in a memorandum signed by Masaryk University and the Czech Athletics Federation. Despite opposition objections, the city council approved the exchange of land with a private owner last year, from whom Brno acquired the land for the hall's construction.

In addition to athletes, it will also be used by the neighboring Masaryk University. It will serve scientific and research activities aimed at improving the training process for athletes. The city leadership states that there is a lack of an indoor athletics hall in South Moravia, which is why athletes, especially in the fall and winter, have to use various gyms for training or leave for Prague.
