Brno - The construction of an athletics hall in the university campus in Brno could begin in May next year. It is expected to be completed in the second half of 2021, said David Grund (ODS), the Brno councilor responsible for investments, to reporters today. The hall, costing 785 million including VAT, will provide seating for about 2,200 spectators and 170 parking spaces. An athletics hall is currently lacking in South Moravia.
The councilors today approved changes to the public procurement, which will make it possible to create 170 parking spaces at the hall instead of the originally planned 48. "I am pleased that we managed to expand the parking spaces at the hall to match the spectator capacity of the sports facility more closely," said Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL).
According to Grund, the start of construction can be expected in May next year. The hall, located between Netroufalky and Bítešská streets opposite the Faculty of Sports Studies at Masaryk University in Brno, is to be completed in the second half of 2021. "Currently, the contractor's performance is in the documentation processing phase," added Grund.
This was the first time that Brno was looking for a construction company according to the so-called Yellow Book for the athletics hall. This means that the winner of the tender will procure all stages of the project documentation and then build the hall. The competition was won by a consortium of companies Imos Brno, Hochtief cz, and Sport Construction. The hall will be a three-story building with one underground and two above-ground floors. It will serve athletes and students of Masaryk University.
