Brno - Brno did not reach an agreement with the hockey club Kometa on the operation of the planned multifunctional hall at the exhibition grounds. The city will try to find another way to ensure the operation of the hall, Brno's mayor Markéta Vaňková announced today in a press release. According to the city, it was not possible to find an agreement that would hold up with the European Commission. They will attempt to announce a new concession procedure. According to Vaňková, this should not significantly restrict the construction or subsequent operation of the hall. The hall, estimated to cost four billion, is expected to offer a capacity for 13,000 spectators.
Brno has been negotiating with the Kometa Group Real company as a bidder for the concession for several months. However, the negotiations have been terminated and will still need to be confirmed by the council. The city stated that despite the great effort from both sides, it was not possible to find an agreement that would meet all parameters during the final notification to the European Commission. According to the city, the current economic and political situation has significantly affected the key parameters and possibilities for both sides. "As a participant in the concession procedure, I can, as a managing director, confirm that under no circumstances do we want to abandon the idea of concluding a concession contract for the use of the hall. We believe that we will return to the negotiations. I discussed this topic with Mayor Markéta Vaňková,” said Libor Zábranský on behalf of Kometa.
According to Vaňková, the city will now look for another way to ensure the successful and quality operation of the arena. "As we have mentioned in the past, we will primarily try to announce the concession procedure once again. Since discussions about the concession also clarify many operational and technical matters that are reflected in the contractual conditions, we can now utilize all the acquired insights, so the entire process should be significantly less time-consuming this time. Therefore, this is not a major complication; it will not significantly restrict the construction and subsequent operation of the multifunctional hall," Vaňková said.
The hall will provide facilities for organizing sports, cultural, and conference events. The capacity will be around 13,000 spectators. The building is expected to have two underground and six above-ground floors and will offer 150 covered parking spaces. The National Sports Agency is expected to contribute to the construction. The city requested 300 million from them.
