Brno - For better coordination of the planned development, which should take into account the needs of both current and new residents, the Brno-jih municipality has introduced the position of the architect for the city district. Tomáš Dvořák has filled this position, having been selected from four candidates by a committee made up of experts and municipal leadership. This was stated today in a press release by Deputy Mayor Jakub Holas (STAN). City districts usually do not have their own architect, but Brno-jih has taken this step considering the dynamic development. The planned projects anticipate an increase in the number of residents by several thousand.

Dvořák is a Brno architect who has led his own studio for more than 20 years. He has also participated in many public, residential, and industrial buildings and holds several awards. "The selection of an architect was crucial for us. We were looking for an expert who would independently and responsibly contribute to development. Brno-jih is a part of the city with enormous potential. Thanks to the architect, we will be able to coordinate development better, enhance the quality of public spaces, and promote a sustainable and predictable urban concept," said Holas.

After signing the contract, Dvořák began working on key projects for the city district. For example, he is involved in an urban competition for Mariánské náměstí, which aims to transform the location into an attractive and functional public space. His main tasks will include consulting on briefs and project phases, assessing and consulting on development intentions, collaborating on the preparation of land-use planning documents, establishing development concepts, and cooperating with the municipality and the City Architect's Office.

"The role of the city architect is to seek the fundamental vision of the future environment, dialogue, finding compromises, and harmony between the demands of various parties. He should contribute to ensuring that the benefits of construction primarily go to all ordinary residents of the city, not just developers. Especially regarding urban structure, it is more than evident that its placement determines the development and structure of the area for the next hundreds of years," said Dvořák.

The city district is currently registering an increase of more than 7,000 residents in projects that are at various stages of implementation or discussion. "The new zoning plan anticipates an increase of another 25,000 residents. Currently, there are 9,000 residents living here," added Holas. In addition, the city district is expecting strategic projects such as a new railway station, a high-speed rail terminal, and a large city ring road.
