Currently, reconstruction and repair of the emergency condition of the roof of the historical part of the departure hall at Masaryk Station in Prague is underway. It is a three-nave building with trusses made of wooden rafters.

Basic information about the construction:

Construction: part of the building no. 1014, cadastral area Nové Město, Havlíčkova 2, Hybernská street, Prague 1, which is a registered immovable cultural monument in the Central List of Cultural Monuments and is located in the heritage reservation of the capital city of Prague
Owner: České dráhy, a.s.
Investor: Masaryk Station Development, a.s.
Technical supervision: Prague Invest s.r.o., PMD, s.r.o.
Designer: Tichý & Kolářová, s.r.o.
Construction contractor: Průmstav, a.s.
Construction company: A-Z Bau, s.r.o.
Roof covering manufacturer: PREFA Aluminiumprodukte s.r.o.
The trusses have been renovated as much as possible; however, some of them had to be replaced with new ones. The span of the outer trusses is 11.7 m, and the span of the middle truss is 5.05 m. The truss arrangement is: one on the column, one in the middle. Subsequently, full-surface sheathing with aluminum roofing is placed on the trusses. Steel bolts connect the diagonal braces with the truss. Glass skylights bring light into the departure hall. The roof structure is supported on the original cast-iron columns. The columns of the hall also serve to drain rainwater through pipes embedded in them.

Part of the building covering the departure hall consists of three parallel ventilated gable roofs with ridge lengths of approximately 67.5 m and a slope of 27°. The outer roofs are of equal size, while the middle one is smaller. The total area of the roof is 1,598 m². To preserve the original load-bearing structure, it was recommended to use a lightweight roofing material. Therefore, the choice fell on the aluminum small-format folded shingle PREFA in the light gray P.10 color shade with a stucco surface finish. This surface is similar to orange peel, which dampens noise during rain due to its irregularity. Additionally, a silver auxiliary strip, contact-glued to the shingle, helps with noise reduction. This system is similar to those used in the automotive industry for car doors.

PREFA folded shingles combine the tried and tested rhombus shape with the modern properties of high-tech aluminum material. This makes folded shingles a suitable roofing material for older and renovated buildings. The size of the folded shingle is 420 x 240 mm in the installed area with a weight of approximately 2.5 kg per m². 10 folded shingles are counted for an area of 1 m². The material of the shingle consists of colored alloyed aluminum with a thickness of 0.7 mm, a two-layer baked paint or powder coating according to RAL or NCS. It is laid on a solid sheathing with a separating layer from a roof slope of 25°, with a maximum surface load of 800 kg/m². Folded shingles are fixed with one patented aluminum clip (i.e., 10 clips per m²). The necessary safety of the small-format covering is further ensured by grooves on the longitudinal and transverse sides. This creates a secure bond resistant to weather influences.

The PREFA folded shingle is available in all standard colors and in a smooth surface finish or stucco. The basic material for PREFA aluminum products is alloys according to EN 1396. Their surface treatment takes place using the so-called coil coating method and meets the strict requirements of ECCA (European Coil Coating Association).

PREFA Aluminiumprodukte s.r.o. provides a 40-year warranty on the basic aluminum material against breakage, corrosion, and frost damage in natural conditions and with professional installation by a construction roofer, and 40 years on the color in P.10 execution.
