Kopřivnice - Kopřivnice in the Nový Jičín region will begin next week to modify the area in front of the Tatra Museum of Personal Automobiles in the city center. The transformation of the space will last over eight months and will cost more than 33 million crowns. Passage through the construction site and access to businesses will be ensured throughout the duration, but the museum will be closed until the end of March. This was announced today by the spokesperson of the Kopřivnice Town Hall, Lucie Macháčková.

The original dominant feature of the space was the iconic train Slovenská strela, which stood there from 1997 until 2018. It was then transported for a complete renovation and afterward found shelter in a new special depot near the new Tatra Museum of Trucks.

"The relocation of the Strela and the revitalization of the adjacent central zone created the need to modify, modernize, and unify the fragmented space into one functional whole, which will create a representative entrance not only to the museum but also to the city center itself," stated the spokesperson.

The architectural study was prepared by the Brno studio M2AU. The project includes a comprehensive transformation of the space and staircase as well as extensive landscaping work.

The city obtained a European grant of more than 14 million crowns from the Integrated Regional Operational Program for the project. "An additional 13.4 million crowns will be provided by the Moravian-Silesian region, under which the Kopřivnice museum falls. As a result, the city's contribution will be approximately 6.5 million crowns," said the spokesperson.
