Prague - Prague 1 disagrees with the proposed change to the zoning plan, which would allow for the renovation of Masaryk Railway Station. Mayor Oldřich Lomecký (TOP 09) stated this at today's press conference. He will be requesting transport and urban studies from the city leadership to justify the city’s intentions. The city district is also preparing to comment on Friday’s public discussion, where its specific objections should be heard. On the other hand, Prague 8 welcomes the planned change to the zoning plan in the Masaryk Railway Station - Florenc area. The proposed change to the zoning plan has been discussed by the councilors of Prague 1 and the urban development committee of this city district. The result is several factual comments, which Lomecký has so far refused to describe in detail. "This is an important space, a connection between Prague 1 and 8, and thus an urban and transport study is essential. Once it is completed and aligns with the city's conception, there should be no problem for the project to continue," said Lomecký. He stated that the city district is not obstructing the process. "We just want to find the best solution," he said. On the contrary, the mayor of Prague 8, Jiří Janků (ODS), agrees with the plans of the capital city, particularly appreciating that New Town and Karlín will be connected. "This is an adjustment that we have been waiting for a long time and which will enable a certain transformation of this area," Janků stated. The proposal from the magistrate includes maintaining railway operations at Masaryk Railway Station and also retaining the postal yard. The Ministry of Culture opposed its removal from heritage protection. The city’s plan thus does not include the expansion of the station's tracks at the expense of the post office on Hybernská Street. By relocating the tracks, space was originally to be freed up on the opposite side near Na Florenci Street, where new construction was planned. What the proposal does take into account is the reconstruction of the bus station at Florenc and the connection of Na Florenci and Pernerova streets. A new public space with greenery is to be created at the Museum of the Capital City of Prague, which will continue towards Vítkov. There is also consideration for a possible future connection between Na Florenci and Opletalova streets, potentially via an underpass or overpass over the station's tracks. The change also includes the establishment of a railway museum in the area of the former Masaryk Railway Station depot.
