Rožnov p. R. - The collection for the restoration of the burned Libušín is slowly coming to an end. People have sent about ten million crowns to the transparent account for the reconstruction of the monument at Pustevny in the Beskids, additional funds have been contributed by regions, and Lesy ČR provided wood for construction, for example. People were also able to contribute to collection boxes. All have been collected, with only the last one remaining directly at Pustevny near the Maměnka hotel, which will be opened on Tuesday. Jindřich Ondruš, the director of the Wallachian Open-Air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, which manages the monument, said this to ČTK today. The collection will officially end on March 3.
Libušín, which was one of the symbols of Pustevny, burned down in March 2014. It was built in 1899 according to the design of architect Dušan Jurkovič. It served as a restaurant in a location popular with tourists and skiers. After the fire, the museum decided to conduct a scientific reconstruction of the building, restoration began last summer, and it should be completed within three years at a cost of nearly 80 million crowns.
In addition to contributions from individuals and companies to the collection account, the Zlín Region also sent five million crowns for the restoration of Libušín, and the Moravian-Silesian Region contributed about 600,000 crowns. Over 900,000 crowns were sent by people through donation SMS in a project by Czech Radio. Lesy ČR donated about 360 cubic meters of fir and spruce logs for the restoration of Libušín. The Military Forests and Estates of the Czech Republic provided free logging and transportation of the wood. "We would like to thank everyone very much, everyone's help is amazing," Ondruš stated.
Tens of thousands of crowns have been collected in the donation boxes. For example, the last donation box located in the tourist information center of Rožnov was opened recently; it contained 6,705 crowns, and since 2014, residents and visitors to the town have dropped a total of 62,447 crowns into it. According to Ondruš, the museum has so far received nearly 40 million crowns from the insurance company for the restoration of Libušín and also has funds from the ministry.
Experts already demolished the burned and damaged part of the building last year. At the beginning of the work, they indicated that they would try to save as many original parts as possible, such as fragments of plaster with sgraffito decoration. A new platform for the building is completed. Wood processing is ongoing over the winter, and the construction itself should begin in the spring.
