Rožnov p. R. (Vsetínsko) - The reconstruction of the burned-down Libušín at Pustevny will begin on Friday. Representatives of the Wallachian Open Air Museum in Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, which manages the monument, will hand over the building to the contractor on that day. Jindřich Ondruš, the museum director, said this today.
The Libušín lodge, built in 1899 according to the design of architect Dušan Jurkovič, was destroyed by a fire two years ago. The structure is expected to be rebuilt within three years. The competition for the reconstruction of the monument, which served as a restaurant, was won by the Brno-based company Archatt. The reconstruction will cost nearly 80 million Czech crowns. "The first step will be administrative; we must also formally hand over the construction site. The company probably has to arrange the construction site, hide the topsoil next to the meadow, where there will be larger construction equipment. It will start with dismantling the building; each beam will be assessed, and everything that is in any way damaged, attacked by rot, insects, or charred will be removed. Once it is dismantled, the platform will be repaired, and utility networks will be installed," Ondruš stated.
According to Jan Všetečka, a representative of Archatt, parts of the preserved plaster with sgraffito will also be dismantled. There are also fragments that were removed after the fire, parts of fixtures or decorations.
Subsequently, a replica of the log construction, including roofs and shingles, will be built. The third phase will be the completion of the building, including artistic and craft details and technical installations. According to Všetečka, the most challenging tasks will be creating a replica of the log structure, which will be made from hand-hewn beams, and crafting wooden decorations and interior furnishings.
The remains of Libušín are expected to be dismantled this year, and selective wood harvesting will start in the fall; the trees must come from a certain altitude and should be cut down in the winter season. The construction of the building should then begin in the spring of next year.
Due to the fire, a fifty-year-old man from the Karviná region faces charges of endangerment through negligence. He is suspected of having neglected the repair of the chimney structures in 2007. He faces up to eight years in prison.
