Prague - Rohanský Island will serve for recreation as well as for flood wave retention. The estimated costs for the modification of the existing brownfield are 130 million crowns excluding VAT. The Prague councilors today approved the announcement of a public contract for the realization of the project on an area of 20 hectares in the Karlín and Libeň area.
The area will serve as part of the territorial system of ecological stability of the landscape. "The expansion of the retention space will create a significant natural element that will provide a habitat for various animal species. It will also create a place for relaxation and recreation for the residents and visitors of Prague. From a water management perspective, natural water retention in the landscape will be ensured during flood situations," said the councilor for the environment, Jana Plamínková (Mayors/Troika Coalition).
During the modifications, it will be necessary to excavate and remove soil, as the entire area will be lowered. The brownfield will be transformed into grassy areas and meadows. The modifications will include the installation of connecting pipes, the construction of a pumping station, ponds, walking paths, and the solidification of surfaces. New trees will also be planted in the area.
