Jihlava – The councilors of the Vysočina Region today proposed to contribute half a billion crowns to the construction of the Horácká Multifunctional Arena in Jihlava. They will present the proposal to the regional representatives, who will decide on the amount of the contribution for the arena in mid-June. The governor Vítězslav Schrek (ODS and STO) said this to journalists today. The arena, with expected costs of nearly 1.5 billion crowns, is planned to be built by the city of Jihlava in place of the Horácký Ice Stadium.
In the new arena, in addition to hockey, various cultural and social events, seminars, or exhibitions should take place. According to the governor, this is a significant initiative for the entire region. "We perceive it even as a supr-regional project," said Schrek, who is also a representative of Jihlava.
The regional coalition originally considered allocating 450 million crowns for the new arena. By increasing the amount by 50 million to half a billion crowns, the governor stated that the region would like to allow for a somewhat more expensive construction of the arena, which would include, for example, gastronomy and accommodation, businesses that could generate some profit. This money should cover part of the costs of operating the arena, which will most likely be loss-making, he added.
Jihlava is currently considering several variants for the construction; thanks to the half billion from the region, it could choose a variant 100 million more expensive with expected costs of 1.45 billion crowns. "We would be very pleased if the city could find the remaining 50 million so that we could really discuss this full-fledged variant," said Schrek. Jihlava would like to start construction next year.
