Jihlava - The results of the architectural competition for a new multipurpose hall will likely be announced by the Jihlava city hall at the beginning of October. The hall is planned to be built in place of the Horácký winter stadium, whose roofing will soon reach the end of its lifespan. The jury evaluated six architectural proposals last week, with three being awarded. The results still need to be confirmed by the city council, architect and city councilor David Beke (ODS), who oversees the project, told ČTK today.

The council is expected to discuss the competition results next Thursday. "After that, the competitors will be notified, and a fifteen-day appeal period will commence," said Beke. Negotiations with the winning bidder will then begin. "We would like to conclude a contract as soon as possible so that we can start the design work," he stated. He added that it still holds true that construction should start in the fall of 2021.

The jury evaluated the proposals on September 12, and the meeting lasted nearly 12 hours, Beke noted. "It met my expectations in that we received six very different perspectives on solving one problem," he said about the submitted proposals. He did not provide further details.

The Horácký winter stadium, where the Dukla hockey club plays its home games, was ceremonially opened at the end of 1955. The sports facility and the club belong to the city. The intention to build a multipurpose hall in its place was approved by the Jihlava city council last December. This is a construction project with estimated costs of up to 750 million crowns. The city hall announced the architectural competition for it in April.

According to last year's static assessment, the operation of the stadium was to end due to the aging roofing by April 2020. Earlier this month, the city hall informed that according to the latest static assessment, hockey can be played at the stadium until the end of the 2021/2022 season. However, the use of the sports facility is conditional on a stricter regime.
