Jihlava - Jihlava will pay nearly 65 million crowns for the complete project documentation for a new multifunctional arena. The contract was awarded to the winner of the architectural competition, which was Josef Chybík in collaboration with the Chybík+Krištof studio. The arena will be built on the site of the current ice stadium, which is expected to be demolished by the end of next year. This was stated today by the arena construction manager and city councilor David Beke (ODS).
"The idea is that from the first groundbreaking to two years later, it should be completed," said Beke regarding the construction of the first phase of the project. The city plans to build the arena and a facility at the intersection of Tolstého and Jiráskova streets in this phase. Beke expressed that he would be pleased if a running track could be constructed on the roof of the arena as per the design. The funds for the initial phase will likely not be sufficient for further modifications aimed at the adjacent small ice stadium or the facility near the former Sokol cinema.
The Horácký ice stadium is home to the Dukla hockey team's home games. The club and the sports facility belong to the city. According to current estimates, the new arena, which will also serve for cultural events alongside sports, could cost around 800 million crowns. An additional 200 million will be needed to cover related costs, including projects, surveys, and securing alternative venues for athletes.
The city hall is currently using funds from 130 million crowns that has been saved for the project. The state and the region are preparing to apply for a contribution towards the construction of the arena. Today, the mayor Karolína Koubová (Fórum Jihlava) identified finances as the biggest risk of the project. However, she is satisfied with the selection of architects. "I am very pleased that we signed a contract with this architectural studio, as they are rising stars," she said.
The price for the project documentation includes all its stages, from completing the study to documentation for zoning approvals and building permits, interior design, and the project for the demolition of the old stadium, as well as the execution of author's supervision during construction. The documentation for the selection of the construction contractor should be completed by August 2021.
