Jihlava – Jihlava would like to announce a tender this summer for the construction of a multifunctional arena, which is meant to replace the outdated Horácký Winter Stadium. If everything goes according to plan, the demolition of the old stadium could begin by the end of the year, said Deputy Mayor Petr Ryška (ODS) to reporters today. According to earlier reports from the city hall, this is a project with costs around one billion crowns.

According to Ryška, the financing of the arena is being finalized. The city is interested in a program to support regional sports infrastructure. "Because among the projects that we think could apply for this (program), we are one of the best," said the deputy. He expects that besides the state, the region could also contribute to the financing of the arena, and part of the costs could be covered by the city through a loan.

The home games of the Dukla hockey players are played at the Horácký Winter Stadium. The sports venue and the hockey club belong to the city.

According to the deputy, the zoning decision for the new arena could be valid within a week, and the city could receive the building permit during May. It already has permission for the demolition of the old stadium. "But we would like to tender for it all at once. This means that the one who would build the new multifunctional arena would also do the demolition," he said.

For this year, Jihlava plans several dozen investments. "I am glad that even in this difficult time, the city is in a position to invest and that it can invest relatively a lot," Ryška said.

For example, the reconstruction of buildings in the center, where the military administration was last, should be completed in April. They will newly serve the city hall. Thanks to a grant from the so-called Norwegian funds, the city plans to start renovating another building in the city monument reserve this year, which will cost nearly 80 million CZK.

In July, the construction of a new road exit from the highway feeder to Roman Havelka Street, where there are shops and an aquapark, should be completed. In the sports and recreational area Český mlýn, an adrenaline sports facility for bikers, the so-called pumptrack, will be added this year. Jihlava will also build additional sections of cycling paths and invest in water management infrastructure, which it will manage itself starting this year.
