The Pardubice Tyrš Gardens will be undergoing repairs

Pardubice - The Pardubice city council has definitively approved the project for the renovation of Tyršovy sady. The park in the city center is set to undergo significant changes, including the addition of a promenade and a restaurant. The cost of the project is 83 million crowns, part of which will be covered by European grants. Construction is expected to begin in the summer.
Before today's vote, a heated debate erupted in the council chamber, as the renovation project has both supporters and opponents. Opponents criticize the city for the high cost of the project and the removal of trees. The project's main architect, Tomáš Jiránek, defended it at the council meeting.
The renovations aim to transform Tyršovy sady into a recreational park, with plans for new lighting and park furniture. The lawns will serve athletes as well as people who wish to sit on the grass or have a picnic. The entrances to the park will also be modified. A new access point to Tyršovy sady will be built from Labská Street. The staircase leading to the park from Sukova Street will also be renovated. Modifications are planned for the entrance from Republic Square as well. According to the project, all these locations will feature barrier-free access to the park.
The project has a number of opponents; for example, in mid-May, two hundred people protested in front of the Pardubice city hall due to the high cost of the project. Benches have become a symbol of the protests; one is expected to cost nearly 69,000 crowns. Prior to this, people protested against tree removal, and today opponents submitted a petition against the revitalization to the city leadership with 7,753 signatures.
The city wants to use European grants for the construction, which are time-limited. In order for the city hall to meet the conditions for allocating the funds, it must use three-quarters of the grant by mid-2013, which means that construction must begin as soon as possible. The renovation of Tyršovy sady has been stirring emotions for a long time. A calendar of acts was also created in protest against tree removal.
